Meet Dr. Mitchel Shields
"What I enjoy most about practicing dentistry is the ability to put a smile on someone's face. It could be as simple as listening to someone talk about their past difficulties with and fears of dental treatment or as complex as a complete smile makeover. Dentistry is a lot more enjoyable if you can have fun in the process."
Dr. Mitchel Shields is the founder and driving force behind D
iscovery
Dental. After
receiving
his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto,
Dr. Shields graduated from the U of T’s Faculty of Dentistry
in
1992. He began his dental career as an associate dentist in Toronto and
Pickering before opening his own practice in Ajax in 1995. Over the
past 14 years, the practice has grown and evolved into what is now
known as Discovery Dental.
In order to ensure you the best that modern dentistry has to offer, Dr. Shields has committed himself to life-long learning and professional development through continuing education. He is a member of the Toronto Implant and Aesthetic Study Club, where he keeps up-to-date in the fields of both dental implants and cosmetic dentistry. Over the years, he has attended many continuing education courses and study programmes in all aspects of dentistry, including dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, short term orthodontics, restorative dentistry, root canal treatments and headache prevention. Dr. Shields is a member of the Ontario Dental Association and the Durham-Ontario Dental Society.
When not in his Dental
Office, Dr. Shields enjoys spending time with his family. Dr.
Shields and his wife,
Renee, have been married since 1988. They live in Toronto
with their five children, age 7 through 18. Being married
to a teacher has made Dr. Shields very aware of the importance of
quality education. He is very involved in his children's schooling and
sits on the Board of Directors of both the religious Elementary and
High Schools his children attend. He is also
actively involved in his synagogue, having served on its Board
of Directors since 1993 and most recently as its President.
"I look forward to meeting you and helping put a smile on your face."
